TSG has been developing software as add-ons to Documentum for over 10 years. Many of our offerings, including the Active Wizard, were initially available as commercially purchased software. In working with clients, we found that the traditional model for pricing software was difficult for us and often got in the way of helping clients build out solutions. The Open Source model has allowed us to focus on services, while continuing to enhance our software with a wider user base. Also, in 2005 we began working with Alfresco, an Open Source alternative to Documentum. We were impressed with their offering and their speed of implementation and product development. We are hoping to achieve similar levels of service with our Open Source efforts.
We believe an Open Source approach benefits both Documentum customers and the Internet developer community. TSG believes that providing source code will enable us to:
No. The source code is available through our web site here without any purchase requirements. Services can also be purchased from any other qualified vendor.
This is a common misconception often spread by the traditional commercial software vendors. All of the Open Source code at TSG has been developed and tested based on our standard methodology and consistent with normal development for a client. As part of our Active Wizard engagements with Abbott Laboratories and Johnson and Johnson, our methodology and development efforts were audited by both clients.
TSG offers online support via – SourceForge (links available on the download page). TSG can also provide service arrangements for support if required.
No. Per our license agreement, our code remains copyrighted. You can release our code as part of your software product if you continue to protect our copyright.
We welcome and encourage contributions to our code base. Please send all your enhancements to opensource@tsgrp.com and we will consider adding them to the code base.
