Web Annotations – Support for Alfresco Share with OpenAnnotate

You are here: Home / Alfresco / Web Annotations – Support for Alfresco Share with OpenAnnotate

June 20, 2016

TSG is excited to announce the general availability of TSG’s Alfresco Share connector for OpenAnnotate to allow replacement of the default Share viewer.  Using OpenAnnotate as the Share viewer allows for users to always see any annotations on a document as well as immediately make new annotations. This post will outline the advantages of using OpenAnnotate as the default viewer.

In the newest version of Alfresco Share, Alfresco has exposed the ability to embed a custom viewer into Alfresco Share. By embedding OpenAnnotate as the default viewer for documents with PDF renditions, we are able to directly display a document with its annotations. The advantages of this:

  • All users see the annotations on the document without having to launch a separate interface
  • User can begin to immediately annotate as they are viewing the document
  • Users that are viewing the same document at the same time in Share see each other’s annotations in real time as well as have chat discussions on a document

See the latest capabilities (including highlight, stamps….) for OpenAnnotate 2.5 in a previous post.

Please review the video below for a demonstration of the updated capabilities in Alfresco Share.
