Documentum and Alfresco – Web-based Scanning in HPI

You are here: Home / Alfresco / Documentum and Alfresco – Web-based Scanning in HPI

September 30, 2013

Forget scanning to your desktop or file server, HPI has a new integration with Dynamsoft’s Image Capture Suite and OCR products. Now you can scan single documents directly into your Alfresco or Documentum repository. This capability moves the point of document capture closer to the point of document creation and entry into a business process. Letters, signed documents, and supporting paper documents can now be captured much faster and easier.

We are excited about the process improvements this new capability opens up for our clients. It reduces the delay commonly experienced with batching documents for scanning or waiting while scanned documents are emailed from multi-function copier devices. Directly applying attributes and saving the documents at the point of capture reduces errors and speeds availability to the document for other people in the process.

This scanning interface is exposed through HPI’s Add Document function. The video below describes two scanning scenarios. First, how HPI implements a simple interface for the plug-in to scan, ocr, and import the image into a folder. The second scenario depicts the advanced scanning interface which launches the local scanner application providing greater control over the scanner settings. Regardless of either approach, the user still has full control over the final image and the ability to attribute the document before saving it.

ARVE Error: need id and provider

Our current client is using the plug-in edition for Chrome; however, there are three editions of Dynamsoft’s tool: Active X for IE, Plug-in for Chrome and others, and a Plug-in for Macs.

Let us know what you think of this new functionality in the comments section.

      Deepak,

The scanning functionality in HPI is currently available for our client projects using HPI 2.1 on Documentum as well as Alfresco 4.x. Eventually this may be downloadable as part of our open source program, but a release date has not been set.

Hi Deepak – The HPI Scanning piece is integrated into HPI 2.1 so it is not a separate download. It also uses a third party product from Dynamsoft. If you’d like to see a live demo, we can do that.
