As described in a previous post, HPI (TSG’s open source High Performance Interface) is undergoing a facelift to beef up the search interface to allow advanced document processing options right from the search results screen. Part of this effort will also include new actions to integrate with Active Wizard.
Similar to the existing Active Wizard Documentum Webtop Connector, one of HPI’s new right-click actions will allow users to launch the Active Wizard and attach a document to an Active Wizard form with a single click. From the Active Wizard, the form and attached documents can be routed for review and approval. This functionality is ideal for regulated industries that have change control processes in place for document management.
Other features included in the HPI/Active Wizard integration include the ability to view the Active Wizard form(s) that a document is attached to, as well as halt an Active Wizard workflow directly from the HPI interface.
The extent of this integration is not a one-way street. The Active Wizard is also being enhanced to allow users to launch documents that are attached to Active Wizard forms in HPI with a single click. Once in HPI, users can view and edit the documents.
Under the hood, HPI and Active Wizard utilize a secure handshake to achieve single sign-on. Users can bounce back and forth between the applications seamlessly, and only have to log in one time. Both applications also utilize TSG’s OpenContent web services layer to manage communication with the underlying ECM repository. Because both applications can share a single OpenContent instance, deployment and maintenance are simplified.
We’re always excited to see many of our open source offerings come together to meet the needs of our clients. In addition to HPI, Active Wizard, and OpenContent, this development effort will also include integration with OpenScan, OpenMigrate, OpenOverlay, and OpenAnnotate. Stay tuned for more details!
